What is trauma and ptsd therapy?

Processing the past
to free the present.

Trauma therapy is specialised care for people who have experienced events that have left a lasting impact on their sense of safety, self, and the world. Trauma is not just about what happened - it is about how the nervous system responded to it and how that response became stuck.

At Manovritti, trauma therapy uses evidence-based approaches including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), Trauma-Focused CBT, and somatic-informed therapy. These are not general counselling techniques - they are specific methods developed for trauma and backed by decades of clinical research.

You do not need to have a formal PTSD diagnosis to benefit from trauma therapy. Complex trauma, childhood adversity, grief, accidents, abuse, and difficult relationships all leave marks that trauma-trained therapy can address.

Is this right for you?

Trauma therapy might be
right for you if...

Trauma shows up in many ways. It does not always look like flashbacks. Often it looks like numbness, hypervigilance, difficulty trusting, or a persistent sense that something is wrong.

You experience flashbacks, intrusive memories, or nightmares about something that happened in your past.

You feel constantly on edge, easily startled, or unable to relax - as if your body is always braced for something.

You avoid certain places, people, conversations, or feelings because they trigger memories or distress.

Something happened - abuse, an accident, a violent event, a sudden loss - and you have never fully processed it.

You struggle to feel present in your own life - as if you are watching yourself from a distance.

Relationships feel unsafe or unpredictable, and trust is deeply difficult - even with people who have never hurt you.

You experienced difficult childhood experiences - emotional neglect, instability, or repeated adversity - that still affect how you feel today.

You have tried regular therapy but felt it was not reaching the right depth, or re-traumatised you rather than helped.

Journey — Trauma & PTSD — Manovritti

What to expect

The trauma therapy
journey.

Trauma therapy never rushes. The pace is set entirely by you and your therapist - safety always comes before processing.

1

Phase 1

Safety and stabilisation

Before any trauma processing begins, you and your therapist build a foundation of safety - coping tools, grounding techniques, and a clear understanding of how trauma works in your body.

No rushing - this takes as long as it needs
2

Phase 2

Building your window of tolerance

You learn to stay regulated while approaching difficult material - expanding the range of emotions you can experience without being overwhelmed.

At your pace entirely
3

Phase 3

Processing the trauma

Using EMDR, TF-CBT, or narrative approaches, you process the traumatic memory - reducing its emotional charge so it becomes a memory rather than a live threat.

The core healing phase
4

Phase 4

Integration and moving forward

You consolidate what has shifted, reconnect with your sense of self, and build a life that is no longer organised around avoiding the past.

Reclaiming your whole self

Testimonial — Trauma & PTSD — Manovritti

I spent years thinking I just needed to be stronger. The trauma therapy helped me understand that my reactions were not weakness - they were my nervous system doing exactly what it learned to do to protect me. EMDR changed my relationship with a memory that had controlled my life for a decade.

Name and details changed to protect confidentiality. Shared with consent.

The past happened.
It does not have to keep happening.

Trauma therapy is not about reliving the past - it is about changing how the past lives in you. That shift is possible, and it is what we are here for.

No referrals needed. Same-week appointments available. Fees shared on confirmation.

Questions about trauma and ptsd therapy

The questions we hear most before a first session. If yours is not here, we are a message away.

Still have a question?

Message us on WhatsApp - Mon to Sun, 9 AM to 7 PM.

01

Will I have to talk about what happened in detail?

Not necessarily - and not before you are ready. EMDR and some somatic approaches work with trauma without requiring you to narrate it in detail. Your therapist will always check in about what feels safe. You are in control of what you share and when.
02

What is EMDR and how does it work?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that uses bilateral stimulation - usually eye movements - to help the brain process traumatic memories. It reduces the emotional intensity of traumatic memories without requiring you to talk through them at length. It is one of the most researched trauma treatments available.
03

How long does trauma therapy take?

This varies significantly. Single-event trauma (a specific incident) may be addressed in 8-16 sessions. Complex or childhood trauma often takes longer - sometimes 6-18 months. Your therapist will give you a clearer estimate after the initial assessment.
04

Can trauma therapy make things worse before they get better?

There can be a period where processing brings things closer to the surface before they settle. This is why Phase 1 (safety and stabilisation) is so important - your therapist will not begin trauma processing until you have adequate coping tools. Feeling unsettled during processing is normal; being destabilised is not, and a good therapist will monitor this carefully.
05

Is online trauma therapy as effective as in-person?

EMDR and most trauma therapies can be delivered online with good results. In-person is preferred because it allows your therapist to observe non-verbal cues and use physical grounding tools if needed. However, online is a valid option - particularly for clients for whom travelling feels unsafe or impractical.
